Gerflor vinyl floorings are fully recyclable at the end of their life and qualify for credits under many internationally recognized green building schemes.
Recycling is not an option for most other flooring materials, with the majority either being sent to incinerators or, most frequently, landfill. The biggest challenge for vinyl recycling is the problem of separating the associated contaminants, adhesives, screed, other floorings etc. Again the industry is working closely to ensure that these difficulties are surmounted as quickly, efficiently and cost effectively as possible and Gerflor is helping to promote these schemes throughout Europe.
In Europe, Gerflor was one of the founding members of the first vinyl floor covering recycling workshop: This factory gets end of life floors back from installers from all over Europe and through its unique sorting and cooling process, can get granulates to be incorporated back into new production lines.
Our European program is part of the Vinyl 2010 program. The target of 200 000 tons of recycled waste / year has been achieved in 2010 for all PVC products in EU.
