The opening of the 45,000 square foot Complexe Sportif de Repentigny gives area sports enthusiasts unparalleled indoor sports opportunities from gymnastics and badminton to basketball, volleyball and more.
Date of installation : March 2007
Surface installed : 45.000 sq feet
Context and testimonials : The recent opening of the mega sports facility qualifies this city in the Canadian province of Quebec to host regional, provincial and national competitions. The gymnastics and badminton competitions of the 42nd Finale of the Quebec Games, the most important sporting event in the province for athletes under 18 years old, are being held there. They will be followed by provincial youth volleyball championships. Additionally, Complexe Sportif has hosted the Quebec gymnastics trials for the 2007 Canada Games and served as the official gymnastics training site for the Quebec team.
It is the result of a public/private partnership. Complexe Sportif is a privately owned and operated facility designed and created to fulfill the city's commitment to provide residents of all ages with a high caliber sports and recreational facility that meets international criteria for sports flooring and equipment and capable of hosting local, provincial and national events. The concept was developed by Pierre Fortier, vice president of Daniel Arbour & Associates, which designed the facility, and Daniel Gagné, Complexe Sportif general manager.
"This is the first city in Quebec to build this type of installation and is a model for future projects in other cities," explains Fortier, who also oversaw the facility's construction. "We can divide the space into three double gymnasiums and serve hundreds of people of different ages playing various sports or participating in recreational programs all at the same time."
